Employment

The department employs approximately 550 staff throughout Queensland in a variety of professions.

The department publishes vacancies:

on Smart jobs and careers, a website detailing vacancies in Queensland state government departments and agencies with links to position descriptions and departmental websites
in the Queensland Government Gazette, which lists vacancies for the departments and it provides details such as locality, salary, closing date, classification and how to obtain a position description
in the Employment section of Saturday's edition of The Courier-Mail and, on certain occasions, other major newspapers.

Not all vacancies are published in the Government Gazette or newspapers, but every vacancy is published on Jobs Online.

It is very important that applicants address the selection criteria contained in the position description and follow the directions for submitting applications. Position descriptions can be obtained through Jobs Online, by telephoning (07) 3224 7863 or by emailing Jobvac.DTFTWID@csq.qld.gov.au.

Each year the department participates in the Breaking the Unemployment Cycle Initiative, which provides traineeships for young Queenslanders. A limited number of traineeships are available in the fields of business administration and information technology.
