Queensland Wine Industry Development Strategy

The Queensland Wine Industry Development Strategy was released in December 2004 after nine months of consultation with a broad cross section of industry stakeholders.

The Strategy is a blueprint to work with the Queensland wine industry in order to develop a sustainable, diverse and innovative wine industry in Queensland.

Creation of Wine Industry Development following the February 2004 State Election as part of the ministerial portfolio of Tourism and Fair Trading Minister, Margaret Keech, is believed to an Australian-first.

The Queensland wine industry will benefit from this high level Government support and from new funding of $0.5 million annually to the department to help develop the industry, promote Queensland wines to national and international markets, and foster a strategic alliance between the tourism and wine industries. Previously, various aspects of the industry were dispersed across agencies, but this more coordinated whole-of-Government approach will maximise opportunities and minimise any barriers to development of the industry.

The department in conjunction with the industry is processing the implementation of the Wine Industry Development strategy. The Wine Industry Development Division is rolling out the Strategy Act as is contained in the blueprint.
